Vacation--Day 1

Casey has had carry over vacation that he has to use by the end of April.  So, he took off last Friday-Thursday of the next week.  We knew we wanted to go somewhere, but wasn't sure exactly what to do.  Casey's dad also had the same time off work and told us that he would watch Caleb for us while we went away.  I persuaded Casey to take me to my favorite place, Hawaii.  Casey's mom works for Delta, so we are able to fly stand by where ever Delta flies.  When flying stand by you just have to wait til the flight is about ready to leave and if there are any extra seats then you can get on the flight.  They decide who gets on by priority (employee, employee's family, buddy pass).  I have to fly on a buddy pass, so my priority is pretty low.  On Delta's emplyee web site you can see how many seats are available and how many other people are also trying to fly stand by and what their priority is.  When we looked at flights, we decided that the most likely flight we would be able to get on was a flight to Kauai. We would have to fly to LA and then on to Kauai.

The flight to Kauai that we wanted to catch was scheduled to leave LA on Friday at 2pm.  We had to decide if we wanted to fly to LA on Thursday night (right after I got off work) or wait til Friday morning.  We decided that Friday morning would be good so that we could spend Thursday night with Caleb before leaving him.  This was our first time leaving him and I was so worried.  I called Casey when I got off work to let him know I was on my way home.  When I got home Casey said that in the last fifteen minutes a lot more people had been put on the list for the Friday flights to LA and we probably wouldn't make it.  So, we would need to fly out right away.  Luckily I had packed Caleb and myself the night before and was ready to go.  Casey had to pack right then and did it in about 5 minutes. Guys have it so easy.

We drove to Casey's parents house and dropped off Caleb.  It was so sad to say goodbye to him, but he didn't even cry.  Casey's mom dropped us off at the airport.  We barely made it to our flight on time, but we did make it.

When we landed in LA, Casey looked at the news reports on his phone and that's when we discovered the earthquake and tsunami in Japan and the tsunami for Hawaii.  Now what were we going to do?  Well, we decided that we would just figure it out in the morning.  To be continued......
