Ouch!!

Well, it finally happened.  We had to take Caleb to the ER for stitches.  I knew this day would come and with as much as he bumps and falls on his head, I'm surprised we haven't had to go sooner.

Casey and I decided to go to a movie and left Caleb at my moms.  When we got back to my moms to pick up Caleb we were just talking while Caleb was playing.  When Caleb gets tired he gets really wild.  Anyway, he was running around and he ran right into the doorway.  I didn't see him hit it, but I knew from the sound that it was bad.  Casey got to Caleb first and when I got to him he had blood running down his face.  As soon as I saw the cut I knew it needed stitches.  Now my mom, bless her heart, she doesn't do doctors or hospitals unless it's life or death and she was asking if a butterfly bandaid would work. Hahaha.  My dad has fixed many cuts with butterfly bandaids that healed great that should have had stitches, but he was gone hunting.  I knew I would feel better if it was stitched, then I would have to worry about how it was going to heal.

My mom lives in Lehi and the closest hospital was American Fork and it was 10 minutes away.  We decided we could get to Alta View in 20 minutes and it would be closer to home.  I drove and Casey held Caleb in his lap.  On the way there, Caleb was pretty concerned about going to the hospital, but we talked to him about what was going to happen and tried to calm him down.

When we got there they put LET, a numbing medicine, on a cottonball on the cut.  They would put more medicine on every 5 minutes and they did this about 4 times.  They said that some kids do well with just the LET and some still need to be sedated.  I was hoping we didn't need to sedate him.
After the medicine had been on it and the bleeding stopped you could really tell how deep the cut was.

Up until this point Caleb was really good and just sat on Casey's lap watching netflix on Casey's phone.  I was a little unsure how he would be when they actually started to sew his head back together.  The doctor said he could still sit on Casey's lap if he wanted, but Caleb said he didn't want to.  So he sat in the chair all by himself and I just held Casey's phone so Caleb could still see it.  He never cried or got scared.  I was so proud of him, he was so brave.  He had to have a set of stitches inside and a set outside.  All together he had about 16 stitches.  You would think that he would be a little more careful now, but no, he still runs around like a wild man and I have to remind him to calm down so that he doesn't have to get stitches again.
