We got up saturday morning, packed up our warm clothes and some food, and drove to midway. You can get to the cabin two ways. One way is to go up big cottonwood canyon up by Brighton ski resort and the other way is to go to midway. When I go with Casey we go to midway because if you go the Brighton way you have to go up and down the face of the mountain. It's really steep and it scares me to death. So we drive an extra 30 minutes to midway so that I can drive on a nice groomed trail. Of course that would be the best way to go with Caleb.
We got to the parking lot and unloaded the snowmobiles and got dressed in our warm clothes. We have a helmet for him, but Casey was worried that Caleb would have a hard time keeping his head up and hurt his neck. So, we decided to wait on the helmet until we can get a collar for it to help support Caleb's head. Here is Caleb ready to go.
Casey had Caleb with him and I had all of our bags. I couldn't have Caleb ride with me because he sat just high enough that my helmet would bump the top of his head. Casey said that Caleb talked a few times on the ride and when Casey asked if he was ok, Caleb said, "fun."
We got to the cabin with no problems and Caleb was happy. The cabin backs up to a hill so you have to climb up stairs to the deck to get to the front door. At the back, you walk out at ground level. So there was a lot of snow becuase the front of the cabin is about two stories high. We opened up the back door to see how much snow was built up and it was almost to the top of the door. Here is Casey and Caleb tredging through the waist deep snow to get to the cabin steps. Well, it was waist deep on me.
We had to shovel a path to the front door to open it and get inside. Caleb just sat and watched us.
Once we were inside, we started a fire and had lunch. Casey had some buddies riding up there and they met us at the cabin. After lunch, Casey went riding with his buddies. Caleb was sad and wanted to go with him. So, we played outside instead. Caleb pushed the snow around with my avalanche shovel. Then we went inside and colored, watched monsters inc, and took a nap. After a nap Casey came back. We were going to stay the night, but Casey remembered that it was the boat show, so we came home to go to that. Even though we didn't stay overnight, it was good to see how Caleb was going to be on the snowmobiles. It was a success. He loved it and still talks about snowmobiling with his dad.
