This past week we went camping at Elk Ridge. Casey and I went for the first time last year and after that we decided that we wanted to go every year. Gary's (my brother) in-laws, family friends, and some of my family go every year in May for the bear hunt and the turkey hunt. Elk Ridge is kind of between Blanding and Lake Powell. It's a fun place to go camping. There are a lot of trails to go 4 wheeling on and many of them go to Indian ruins.
We left Tuesday night at about 10 pm. We made it almost to Moab, but had to stop at a gas station for the night. Wednesday morning we got up a drove the rest of the way. We got to camp around 1pm. We just kind of hung out that day. As the day went on more and more people kept coming. By that night there were 12 trailers at our camp.
The plan for Thursday was to go to the cowboy cabin. Casey and I decided to go as far as Caleb would allow us to go, which ended up being the whole way. We were very surprised because that ride took us all day. It was a fun ride, but scary at times. We had to go through a ravine that the 4 wheelers could get through fine, but our teryx and the rhino that was with us had to be winched up it because they would get stuck in the sand. There was a hole at the top of a small hill that Casey didn't think was too big so we tried to go through it. Well the hole got bigger than it as we went over it and when the back driver side tire went through it, it sunk in the hole and the front tire on the passenger side came off the ground and we tipped into some trees. If it weren't for the trees we would have rolled. Scott (Gary's father-in-law) stood on the front by the tire in the air and we were able to get back up right and keep going. We made it to the cabin and it was fun to see.
Friday we went on a ride to the Dollhouse Indian Ruin. That ride was only a couple of hours. We had to hike a little way to get to it.
Saturday Casey and I went on a hike to a ruin that is two stories high, which really isn't as high as you think it would be, but I guess these Indians were only about 5 feet tall. It's a long hike so Gary and Tracy were nice enough to watch Caleb back at camp so that we could go. It's a ruin that Tracy's grandpa found when he was a boy. It isn't on any maps, so there are only a few people that know about it. Along the way you can find arrow heads and indian pottery. It was definitely worth the hike.
